DECRA is a steel roof panel system with a ceramic stone-chip coating fused to the surface. It looks like traditional roofing but performs like metal:

DECRA solves three problems that traditional clay tile creates in Dallas:
How DECRA stacks up against traditional tile in Dallas:
Clay and concrete tile require structural verification. Production homes from the 1980s-2010s were framed for shingles at 200-400 lbs/sq, not tile at 600-1,200. DECRA at 150 lbs eliminates this — no engineering, no structural work, no added cost.
Clay tile cracks on 1.5-inch or larger hail, which DFW gets regularly. Each cracked tile is a water penetration point. DECRA's Class 4 rating survives hail that shatters clay tile — stopping the cycle of hail claims.
Clay tile is a specialized trade — walk wrong and you break tiles, and replacement batches don't match. DECRA installs with screws like any metal panel; repairs are straightforward, and color is manufactured, not quarried.
The Galvalume steel base is rated for 50-75 years. The ceramic stone-chip coating weathers like natural stone — no paint to fade, no asphalt to oxidize.
DECRA has a 50-year warranty; clay tile lasts 75-100. In historic homes (Park Cities, Swiss Avenue) natural clay or copper is period-correct. For the tile look with modern hail resistance, DECRA is the better choice.
For Dallas homeowners choosing DECRA, the realistic expectation is 50+ years with zero maintenance beyond occasional gutter clearing. The roof will outlast your mortgage.

DECRA makes several profiles — here are the ones that work best on DFW homes:
Here are the DECRA profiles we install on DFW homes:
The signature profile. Pressed to look like Spanish barrel tile — the S-curve wave pattern. Terracotta, charcoal, and earth tones. Best on Mediterranean, Spanish Revival, and Mission-style homes.
Mimics rough-hewn cedar wood shake. The stone-chip coating captures the irregular edge and deep grain of natural cedar. Browns, grays, and weathered driftwood tones. Great for traditional and wooded homes.
Simulates architectural asphalt shingles but in steel — the lowest-profile option. Reads as a premium shingle roof from the street. Best for HOAs that restrict tile but allow shingles.
A lower-profile tile with a less pronounced barrel curve. Works on homes where full barrel tile would look out of scale.
StazOn carries DECRA samples in all profiles and colors. We bring them to your home so you can see each profile against your brick, stone, or siding.

StazOn Roofing really takes care of business. Most impressed with the rapid response for change orders/add ons. They crank out custom metal anything we used lots of flashings / door pans / chimney cap / etc… way beyond the roof. Best looking gutter job I have ever seen… same high quality material as roof. The roof just a work of art. Paul and Justin deliver high quality work and care about the customer. I don’t often recommend however these guys are a top notch organization so one must. Thanks You!!!! - JarrodPosted on Google Jessica MossDecember 11, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service great people. Wonderful company!!! Easy to work with.Posted on Google Richie & Tasha KeeneAugust 21, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We've relied upon StazOn Roofing for help identifying/repairing a leak in our roof, and other minor repairs. Lewelen is always professional/courteous to work with in scheduling the work, and Raul shows up on-time, is efficient and the work he has performed is top-notch. StazOn will continue to be our go-to roofing expert!Posted on Google Daniel TossettiJuly 25, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We've worked with StazOn for nearly a decade between this house and our last house. They are always super professional, organized, and friendly. We decided to splurge and put a standing-seam metal roof on our mid-century-inspired house and I couldn't be more happy with the results. All of the pieces were custom-fabricated and the installation was smooth, clean, and executed with care. I highly recommend working with StazOn.Posted on Google Dave RandallJuly 21, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had StazOn roofing install a new roof on our house. The supervisor Justin showed up with his crew very early. Workers pretty much worked nonstop for close to 12 hours. From the time of Justin giving us the estimate things went well. He gave us the choice of materials to be used with no pressure I had already kind of decided on GAF Timberline HDZ shingles and StazOn highly recommended GAF. The warranty with the shingles was one of the best too. I am 80 and I have to say the transaction with this company has been very satisfying and pleasant. The workmanship was top notch and the cleanup was great.Posted on Google Peter B BartholowMay 20, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Person who made repairs on steep tile roof is extremely knowledgeable, careful and efficient. I would definitely recommend highly for either repairs or new roof installation. Paul is great to work with for timely response, logical approach to billing and help with different problems.Posted on Google Max LevyFebruary 23, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. As an architect it has become very difficult these days to find talented, dedicated, reliable subcontractors. StazOn on the other hand checks all these boxes. They not only routinely execute challenging design details well, they often make suggestions that actually improve the details. Additionally, I’ve rarely had a punchlist item for them to take care of on any of our projects. They are quite rare. Hire them!Posted on Google B Glazer RosenblattFebruary 21, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They do beautiful work that is respectful of the historic architectual design of our home! They are also incredibly responsive and timely when it comes to any repairs. A joy to work with and reasonably priced!Posted on Google John PollockNovember 27, 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very good company. I have used them twice in a 5 year period. Once on my old house (Full roof) and again on my new house which was a repair. They are honest, prompt to reply and ON TIME! Justin is a very solid guy and I strongly recommend this company.
FAQ
A: DECRA: $9-13 per square foot installed. Concrete tile: $10-15, but add $3,000-8,000 for structural reinforcement if needed. Clay tile: $14-22. When structural work is required for traditional tile, DECRA is almost always the lower total cost.
A: The stone-chip coating reflects more solar energy than dark shingles. The steel core doesn’t absorb moisture or degrade from heat cycling like asphalt. Attic temperatures under DECRA run comparable to light-colored shingles. It doesn’t match the passive cooling of traditional tile, but it beats dark shingles.
A: From 30 feet, yes — the profile and color read as tile. Up close on a one-story home, the metal substrate is more apparent. DECRA Tile on a two-story home fools most observers. DECRA Shake is the most convincing profile — the texture masks the metal base better than the tile profile does.
A: Standard synthetic underlayment is sufficient. No special high-temperature underlayment is required because DECRA doesn’t trap heat under the panels the way traditional tile can. StazOn uses GAF Deck-Armor as standard on DECRA installations.
A: Yes — DECRA is one of the few roofing materials rated for overlay installation. At 150 lbs per square, the added weight is manageable on most homes. StazOn prefers a tear-off when possible to inspect the decking, but overlay is code-compliant and warranty-approved for DECRA. Call 214-466-1518 to discuss your situation.
